OVERVIEW = Choose a recording of a stand-up comedian performing. There must be a live audience in the recording.
GOAL = Analyze and describe and reflect on audience-performer relationship.
TASK = Answer the following prompts about the clip you have selected.
PROMPTS = These are about the performance, not the material. It isn’t “what’s said” but “how it’s said” … just so you know. Why did you choose this clip? How did you find it and what makes it interesting for you as a person?Describe how the performer makes you feel? His or her demeanour, posture, attitude, etc. It’s not “he or she is this” but “I feel this way when I watch him or her.” Be specific. Describe how the audience makes you feel? Do you want to join them or are they not interesting for you … do they respond how you respond or are they bewildering to you … is the atmosphere in the room inviting or repulsive … etc.Find a moment where the audience and the performer are in total agreement and supporting one another. Analyze how everyone (performer, audience) reacts when one group is “with” the other group — how does body language, attitude, tone, feeling, etc. change. Find a moment where the audience and the performer are in total disagreement and not supporting one another. Analyze how everyone (performer, audience) reacts when one group is “against” the other group — how does body language, attitude, tone, feeling, etc. change.
REMINDER = Each answer should be a paragraph (Question-of-the-Day-length) and use details in order to make your points. Use timestamps in the video (ex. 4:32:11 or hour:minute:second) in order to be specific.
